This research focuses on the functional determinants and evolution of transcription factors in E. coli. We investigate the diverse roles of transcription factors, classified as activators, repressors, or dual regulators, and their interactions with RNA polymerase. Using structural domain assignments from SUPERFAMILY and data from RegulonDB, we explore how protein families and binding sites influence gene regulation. Our work aims to provide insights into the gene regulatory network evolution through duplication and other mechanisms.
