  2. Lesson Objectives TLW be able to recognize pronouns in sentences. TLW be able to define antecedent. TLW be able to identify a pronoun and its antecedent in a sentence. TLW be able to ensure proper pronoun-antecedent agreement in a sentence (Pronouns should agree in number and in gender with their antecedents.) TLW be able to create his/her own sentence using pronouns and antecedents that are given, ensuring that the pronouns and antecedents agree.

  3. Pronouns • A pronoun takes the place of a noun. • Ralph left his notebook in the band room. • “His” takes the place of Ralph.

  5. Antecedents • An antecedent is the noun that the pronoun replaces. • Ralph left his notebook in the band room. • “Ralph” is the antecedent.

  14. A Rule To Remember: • A pronoun must agree in number and gender with its antecedent. • Number - whether the pronoun is singular or plural • Gender - whether the pronoun is masculine, feminine, or neuter (neutral)
