Southern Elementary PTA The Shark Review NEXT PTA MEETING: Wednesday, May 16th Jan. 2012 April 2012 Issue 8 Nominating Committee NEEDED… The PTA Board is looking for PTA Members to form a committee to assist us with the voting process for the 2012-2013 school year. If you are interested, please email us at southernpta@gmail.com Mark your calendars now for May 16th to join us at our last meeting of the school year. Elections will take place during the “intermission” of our Steel Drum Performance in the Multi Purpose Room. Band Begins at 6:30pm. Congratulations to our March Raffle winner, Stephanie Pritchard,Mom of Madeline & Zachary Pritchard. She won her choice of Southern Apparel. Thanks to all families who came out on Math & ELA Night on March 7th BOX TOP CONTEST UPDATE The Box Tops goal for this school year was $3,000.  $3,033.24 worth of Box Tops!!! The winning classrooms for the contest were: B- 9, O –14, Y-10, & G-3 It is important to note that one classroom won by 3 Box Tops! Winning classes were treated to an ice cream party! THANK YOU, Bonnie Stark, for taking this on, as we know it is very time consuming. You did a great job ! The Food Bank of Delaware is looking for groups and individuals to march in the third annual Parade to Fight Hunger - the official opening of the Wilmington Grand Prix on Saturday, May 19! The parade is scheduled for Saturday, May 19 at 12 noon. Staging begins at 11:00 a.m. at 5th & Market Streets in downtown Wilmington. Marching bands, performance groups, community groups, businesses, schools, faith-based organizations and individuals who are interested in marching in this year's parade are asked to contact Chris Bell, Parade Organizer, at (302) 893-5636  or contact@wilmgrandprix.com. The day also features professional bike racing, a family street fair and more. To learn more about this year's Grand Prix and all of the weekend's activities, including the second annual Governor's Ride on Sunday, May 20, please visit www.wilmgrandprix.com. PTA Meeting Dates to remember: Wed.May 16th Elections will take place for PTA Board Our 1st EverMovie Nightwas a success thanks to chairperson, Lynnette Lemoine!! On Friday, March 24th, we showed Happy Feet 2. Kids showed up with blankets & pillows, ready to chill out and hang with other Southern friends! A huge THANK YOU to those parents who donated snacks, and help during this event! Capri Sun Update Keep’m coming kids!!!! So far we’ve collected over 6000 pouches, and keep your eyes out for Capri Sun recycled bags around school – you never know when a PTA Board Member might award you with one !! Check out the display case in main hallway for a couple of different styles. Keep up the good work -now you have an opportunity to see what recycling does for us!! CAMPBELL’S LABELS for EDUCATION The Labels for Education program is a great way to get free stuff for our school. Simply save the UPC labels from products with the Campbell’s Labels for Education, and send them in with your child. So far this year we have collected 4,498 in Campbell’s soup labels.  You Join—Our Kids Benefit
