  1. To outsource or stagnate? A free society rewards individuals fairly A centrally planned economy not Every year 100,000 US white-collar jobs offshored, BUT others are created and efficiency is increased Plus, an economy of 140 million jobs, in which 15 million are eliminated annually (offshoring accounts for less than 1%!) Offshoring as a normal evolution of specialization and trade

  2. To outsource or stagnate? ‘This is the nature of a free society: economically, it does not stand still, it advances. It demands the same of its citizens’ “Life, as I see it, is not a location, but a journey. Even the man who most feels himself "settled" is not settled--he is probably sagging back. Everything is in flux, and was meant to be. Life flows. We may live at the samenumber of the street, but it is never the same man who lives there” (Henry Ford)

  3. To outsource or stagnate? Things change (automobile, phone, computers, cell phones internet, etc.), and industries/firms/individuals should change as well New skills will arise and will be in demand (e.g. managers able to integrate a firm’s activities across cultures/countries) ‘Those who prosper in a free society are individuals who choose, no matter how severe the change, to adapt, to expand their skills, to increase their knowledge, to grow’

  4. To outsource or stagnate? Those who react negatively to changes have two courses of action: stagnation or governmental protection This last is the opponent of offshoring/outsourcing Resents the fact that life can be changed/disrupted by the freedom of other people advancing their interests And demands that governments forcibly restrain the success of his fellow citizens (e.g. the ‘Benedict Arnold CEOs’)

  5. The Case Against Offshore Outsourcing Suppose that you lose your job overnight, what is going to happen with you and your family? Is it fair? Being replaced by someone cheaper? Corporate greed is behind With the number of jobs missing in America, it has become very hard for a number of workers to find something they are good at that covers the expenses

  6. The Case Against Offshore Outsourcing This search around the world for cheap labor has meant at least $19.7 billion in lost U.S. wages in 2003 alone ‘The minimum wage will not go up for a while’ ‘Why would a company want to pay us what we deserve if they can just offshore the position’ Security issues with offshore partners? Outsource within borders so jobs go to local citizens

  7. The Case Against Offshore Outsourcing More ways to cut costs other than sending jobs overseas More flexible strategies (e.g. working from home) The most effective way to oppose offshoring is through unions ‘Firms are blind with the greed of making more money, and money is the root of all evil’

  8. Francisco’s money speech The “root of all evil”? But what is the root of money? Money as a means of exchange Only exists because there are goods produced and men able to produce them “Money is the material shape of the principle that men who wish to deal with one another must give value for value” Payment for your efforts, in exchange for the efforts of others

  9. Francisco’s money speech Moochers & looters Gold? The root of production? Man’s mind is the root of all the goods produced and of all of the wealth that has ever existed on earth Money is made by the effort of every honest man, “each to the extent of his ability”

  10. Francisco’s money speech Money gives the means for the satisfaction of desires, but it will not provide with desires Money will not purchase happiness for the man who has no concept of what he wants: money will not buy intelligence for the fool, or admiration for the coward, or respect for the incompetent Money is the product of virtue, but it will not give you virtue and it will not redeem your vices. Money will not give you the unearned, neither in matter nor in spirit

  11. Francisco’s money speech Men who apologize for being rich–will not remain rich for long – Altruism? “The words ‘to make money’ hold the essence of human morality” “Until and unless you discover that money is the root of all good, you ask for your own destruction. When money ceases to be the tool by which men deal with one another, then men become the tools of men. Blood, whips and guns–or dollars. Take your choice–there is no other–and your time is running out.”
