Objectives • To provide follow-up medical care to victims of sexual violence after they have received initial treatment at AED • To provide medical care to victims of sexual violence who presented within 6 months of the assault and is referred by a registered medical practitioner to be in need of further medical care related to the sexual assult

  3. Sexual Violence Incident Victim attending AED in isolation Pre-attendance call from case worker Victim attending AED accompanied by case worker Inform case worker to come while attended by experienced nurse Acute medical treatment Police statement and forensic examination in an appropriate setting Referral todesignated follow-up clinics Appointment booked by case worker Victim attending follow up clinic accompanied by case worker

Scenario 1: Victim presented at AED within 14 days of sexual assault • Victim attended AED and received referral letter (sample letter) • Case worker/Victim calls at the contact phone number of the designated clinic and make appointment • Victim (accompanied by case worker) to attend the designated clinic on the appointment date

Scenario 2: Victim presented later than 14 days but within 6 months of sexual assault • Victim should visit a registered medical practitioner for assessment • Obtain a referral letter to designated clinic if appropriate • Victim/Case worker calls at the contact phone number of the designated clinic and make appointment • Victim (accompanied by case worker) to attend the designated clinic on the appointment date

  7. Medical service provided at designated clinics • First visit 10-14 days after AED attendance • Second visit at 6 weeks • Third visit at 3 months • Fourth visit at 6 months Scheduled visit may be adjusted according to clinical need.

First visit 10-14 days after AED attendance • Review A&E records and case summary from case worker • Trace A&E Ix results +/- further action • Hx, P/E, Ix as appropriate • Screening for STDs +/- treatment or referral • Rule out pregnancy in female victims +/- further action ( e.g. refer for TOP ) • Advice on safety of sexual activities • Assess psychosocial wellbeing +/- referral

  9. Second visit at 6 weeks • screen for STDs as appropriate • rule out pregnancy for female victims

  10. Third visit at 3 months • screen for STDs as appropriate

  11. Fourth visit at 6 months • screen for STDs as appropriate
