  2. Impact and engagement The aim of the impact and engagement assessment work-steam is to create tools and guidance that service managers can apply locally either within individual organisations, across health economies or Strategic Health Authorities. Top HILJ paper in 2005 - 2,500 downloads • Toolkit Aberystwyth pilots in 2007 • Toolkit published on For Librarians in August 2008 • Next step Independent testing in 2008-9 • Sharing the learning in 2009

  5. The toolkit contains comprehensive guidance and resources, including: • Guidance on the logistics of conducting an impact study • Advice about research methods involved, including guidance on estimating the sample size, distributing surveys, conducting interviews and data analysis • A proposed questionnaire and telephone interview schedule • Templates for invitation sheets, consent forms and the final report

  6. Where to find it:http://www.library.nhs.uk/forlibrarians/toolkits/impacttoolkit • Background • What contains • Where to find it • Independent Testing

  7. Independent toolkit testing Commissioned by NLH Service Development Group • to demonstrate if, and how, the information that library service makes available to clinical staff is having a direct impact on patient care. In particular it is hoped to gather stories that demonstrate: • a positive impact on clinical outcomes • the effective and efficient use of library funding • the impact of the library service on physiotherapists and occupational therapists, both those based in the hospital and those working in the community (recognising that therapy groups are less well represented in the research literature than medical and nursing staff).

  8. Sharing the learning • Theory into practice: Lessons learned report to NLH Service Development Group including practical tips on how to apply the toolkit • FOLIO – MAXIM February 2009 • Workshops?
