This document presents a comprehensive overview of establishing Pseudo-Wires (PWs) for ATM Virtual Trunks in an ATM/MPLS control plane interworking scenario. It details the 1-1 mapping between ATM Virtual Circuits (VCs) and PWs, ensuring transparent establishment of VCs within the Packet Switched Network (PSN). The implementation is designed to minimize disruptions to existing ATM switches while allowing effective management of VPI ranges. Additionally, a new PW Type value for Virtual Trunks is proposed, accommodating current deficiencies in existing values. A readiness for final ballot is also highlighted in this agreement.

ATM/MPLS Control Plane InterworkingClient-to-Client Establish PWs for ATM routing and signaling channel • 1-1 mapping between ATM VCs and Pseudo Wires Establish PW for each ATM VC under control of ATM signaling PE1 PE2 ATM Network PSN ATM Network
ATM/MPLS Control Plane InterworkingVirtual Trunks • With Virtual Trunks, ATM VC establishment is transparent to PSN Establish PW as Virtual Trunk PE1 PE2 ATM Network PSN ATM Network
ATM/MPLS Control Plane InterworkingVirtual Trunks – distributed implementation • The distributed implementation enables interworking with minimal modifications to ATM switches and LERs ME maps VPI range to the Virtual Trunk PW Virtual Trunk is identified as a VPI range. Translating VPI Ranges • To increase manageability, VPI ranges are locally significant • MEs translate VPI ranges • This does not require the ME to be involved in ATM VC establishment {0, 31} {0, 31} A2 What VPI range should be used for this VT? A1 {32, 63} {32, 63} A3
New PT Type Value • Liaison statement from MFA Forum requesting a new PW Type value for VTs • Existing values are not applicable • 0x0003 ATM transparent cell transport does not allow for VPI translation • 0x0009 ATM n-to-one VCC cell transport is defined for a single VCC • 0x000A ATM n-to-one VPC cell transport is defined for a single VPC • Virtual Trunk Interworking Agreement is ready for Final Ballot
