  1. Fig Leaves, Furs, Filthy Rags, and Fine Line “All our righteousness are as filthy rags…[God] hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness.” Isaiah 64:6, 61:10

  2. The Facts, Please! • Fig leaves-These were the “in” fashion for a while, since they were worn by all people in the world at the time-Adam and Eve. The leave were large with deep lobes, and they sewed the leaves together to make coverings. There are over a hundred different kinds of fig trees, most of them growing in countries around the Mediterranean Sea.

  3. More Facts, Please! • Furs-Since fig leaves didn’t cover well and withered quickly, Adam and Eve needed something else to wear. God gave them furs-the skins of animals. In order for these to be worn, an animal had to be killed and its blood shed. Who killed it? We don’t know. Maybe God did, or he taught Adam how to do it.

  4. Filthy rags-Some people consider themselves to be “in style” spiritually because of their own good deeds, even if they don’t believe in Jesus. They think they have on robes of righteousness, but God sees them wearing very dirty, bad-smelling rags. Fine linen-In heaven, fine linen is the “in” thing for the bride of Christ (the church) to wear at her wedding feast. God offers this garment of salvation-a pure white robe of Christ’s righteousness-to any who will repent of sin and believe in Jesus as Savior. He bought these robes with his blood when he died on the cross. More Facts, Please!

  5. Fig leaves Furs Filthy rags Garment of salvation Robe of righteousness Fine linen, clean and white Spiritual clothing given to anyone who repents of sin and trust Christ as Savior. Clothing worn by people who trust in their good deeds for their salvation, not in Jesus. Aprons made by Adam and Eve to try to cover themselves. Robes worn at the wedding feast in heaven by the bride of Christ. Coats made by God for Adam and Eve to wear. Another name for the garment of salvation-made, not of our own goodness, but of Christs.
