Why Washington D.C.? • The capitol of the United States of America was created to be an impressive showcase of democracy, to humble foreign heads of state, and to keep the Southern states happy. It is a city like no other in the world. This is why Brookville Middle School plans a yearly trip for eighth graders. • In order for you to be more prepared to visit this city, either this year or later in life, it’s important to have some idea of what to expect and what you will learn! How do you know what to visit in D.C.? • With so much to see and do in this city, your teachers have created an activity to help you answer the following questions: • What makes Washington DC so special? • When you get a chance to visit DC, what do you absolutely HAVE to experience? In other words, what about this fabulous city should not be missed? Web Resources
Your Task! • For this project, you will be grouped and assigned a DC related topic to complete a presentation on. To help you make a well informed decision about your topic, you are required to complete this introductory activity. • On Day One: With a partner, explore the extensive web resources we have given you to create a scavenger hunt for your peers to complete. Your scavenger hunt must consist of 5 to 10 thought provoking questions. You may type your questions in the scavenger hunt template, print off your completed scavenger hunt, and hand it in to your teacher. • On Day Two: You will be placed into another group and given a random scavenger hunt to complete in class. Creating and completing these scavenger hunts should give you an idea of the many topics you can select for your presentation. After you complete your scavenger hunt, turn it in and your teacher will give you a Topic of Interest form to complete. From this point, you will be grouped up and more detailed instructions will follow! HINT: Use any extra time you have to explore the web resources available on this webquest! Web Resources
