The clever advertising technique being used here is eye catching graphic design. • Straight away when you look at this sign, your eye is attracted to the font of the word ‘Beacon’. The font size of the word ‘Beacon’ is much larger than the word ‘Lighting’. • The layout of the sign is a very smart way to persuade the consumer. The yellow background reminds you of a big, bright light bulb.

Another ‘trick of the trade’ they are using is Star Power. • The Wiggles are being used to advertise a competition for future Medibank customers to Win a trip to Dreamworld and Whitewater World. • The advertisers were really smart to choose this trick because nearly everyone likes a good holiday every so often.
Better Homes and Gardens • The product or company being advertised here is Better Homes and Gardens. • The ‘trick of the trade’ being used here is Merchandise. • A bonus activity is being sold with the magazine. (Make your own Earrings). • This is a very smart way to persuade consumers to buy the magazine. It makes the consumer feel like they can create something special of their own.

Reflection This Literacy Homework task made me think a lot more about advertising and what techniques the advertisers use to manipulate the audience. I got a lot out of this activity and I look forward to learning more about advertising.
