  2. What LU Stands For? Lefevre Utile, better known worldwide by the initials , is a manufacturerbrand of Frenchbiscuits, emblematic of the city of Nantes, France. Lefèvre-Utile was founded in 1846 by Jean-Romain Lefèvre. The founder's son, Louis Lefèvre-Utile, took over the company and eventually it was acquired by Générale Biscuit S.A., In 1984, Mr. Hasan Ali Khan (the founder of Continental Biscuits Limited), signed a joint venture agreement with Generale Biscuits, which in turn was sold to Groupe Danone in 1986. Mr. Hassan Ali Khan founded LU in Pakistan with 50.50% share with danone group in 1986. In November 2007, LU was sold to .Now LU has shares with Kraft Foods.

History of LU The success story of LU in Pakistan began with the initiative of Mr. Hasan Ali Khan (the founder of Continental Biscuits Limited), who signed a joint venture agreement with Generale Biscuits, the global manufacturers of the LU range, which was subsequently acquired by the DANONE Group. Expansive investments were made including the import of technology and professional expertise from abroad. The first undertaking was to set up a factory and establish distribution centers in the country with the ultimate objective of commencing operations and marketing our products in Pakistan. CBL thus started its' operations in the country since September 1986 with only one production line and initial strength of 200 employees and now in 2011 it has expanded into 6 state of the art production lines and 2200 employees making biscuits round the clock to meet costumer’s demand.

  4. LU’s Manufacturing Plant The manufacturing plant of Continental Biscuits Limited is located at Sukkur, a city located in Sindh, 500 kms from Karachi. It’s plant and its’ residential colony are multi storied buildings built on 15 acres of land. Factory have modern computerized machinery. The production lines operate on automatic PLC control and semiautomatic mode under extreme hygienic conditions. It has highly qualified staff to handle the factory operations. It's environment is very neat and healthy.

  5. Residential Colony Residential colony is multi storied buildings surrounded by lush green gardens. The colony houses more than 30 employees who reside here with their families. There is a club house with modern gymnasium facilities for visitors and guests and for those traveling to Sukkur for business purposes. These red brick buildings amidst lush green lawns with exquisite wild life and natural beauties provide a picturesque sight to its viewers. The serenity of the environment surrounding our factory is immensely relaxing.

  6. Exports Starting out in 1984 with local sales Continental Biscuits Limited is now the number one biscuit exporter from Pakistan, exporting in more than 30 countries. Export volumes at CBL has increased by 15 times in the last five years. They intend to be leaders in export of LU Brand biscuits in the global markets.

  7. Corporate Social Responsibility The top management of CBL is fully aware of their CSR. They at CBL believe in being 'Good Corporate Citizens’ which is evident from the fact that they have always had their focus towards the sustainability of environment and resources at large. They realize that their future success is dependent upon the future of the environment and the society to which they belong and in which we exist. They are heavily involved in projects that develop infrastructure, education, healthcare, water and sanitation and social welfare programs for the people of this area.They also help culture and society flourish, by supporting charities, providing scholarships, treating needy patients and by donating for humanitarian reasons. They yearly give 15 scholarships each to IBA, Sukkur and Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai University, Khairpur.
