  1. Protecting and PreservingWildlife Conservations Marise Rodriguez CAS 100 Section 7 November 13, 2009

  2. Introduction • It is important to preserve Wildlife conservations because they are beneficial not only to plants and animals but to people as well. • People tend to over look what these conservations are doing. They feel it is of no importance because it will never have an effect on their lives, but it can and in a major way.

  3. Overview • What can happen if Wildlife Conservations are not protected. • Solutions that come from Wildlife Conservations • Wildlife Organizations

  4. There are many problems that can accumulate if wildlife is not protected. • Water pollution • With the human population expected to increase to 9 billion by 2050, and with much of that growth happening in developing countries, the global freshwater crisis is only going to get worse. • Also an estimated one out of every six people on Earth has no access to clean drinking water; two out of six people lack adequate sanitation; and four out of six are afflicted by water-borne illnesses. • (Conservation International)

  5. Food shortages • With the in crease in population the demand for land and food will increase, but land that was being used for agricultural purposes is know taken away. • Which will then lead to the small production of food.

  6. Health Problems • With water pollution and food shortages people may become sick • Also loss of medicine.

  7. With wildlife conservations many of these dangers can be prevented. • Water pollution is being controlled by protecting natural springs and cleaning polluted rivers and streams. Creating better drinking water and cleaning water. • Protecting agricultural lands such as forests, meadows, etc. Food can be supplied.

  8. And most importantly • With the preservation of plants and animals medicines will be made. • Globally, more than 50 percent of modern medicines and more than 90 percent of traditional medicines come from wild plants and animals. More than 70,000 plant species are used as medicine, making up "one of the most significant ways in which humans directly reap benefits from wildlife. (World Conservation Network)

  9. Wildlife Organizations • The Nature Conservancy They work with local communities, businesses, and individuals to protect over 100 million acres of land around the world. In doing so, they preserve the wildlife communities and diversity on those lands. Stats: 79.5% of expenses go to conservation projects, 20.5% go to admininstration & fundraising • Conservation International Conservation International is an organization where their work has worldwide impact and is aimed at protecting Biodiversity Hotspots as well as developing regional conservation programs. Stats: 85.5% of expenses go to conservation projects, 14.5% go to administration & fundraising (About.com: Wildlife Conservation Organizations)

  10. World Wildlife Fund The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) their work is aimed at protecting biodiversity around the world. The WWF also works with multilateral and bilateral agencies to promote sustainable development in the world's poorest countries Stats: 79.7% of expenses go to conservation projects, 29.3% go to administration and fundraising. • Wildlife Conservation Society The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) supports zoos and aquariums while promoting environmental education and conservation of wild populations and their habitats. They also offer educational resources and a wide variety of conservation programs. Stats: 88.8% of expenses go to conservation projects, 11.2% go to administration and fundraising

  11. Conclusion • Causes of not Protecting wildlife • That by protecting and preserving wildlife many benefits can come from it. • What different organizations do to help wildlife • Also I would like for you to take I to consideration what wildlife conservation is doing and lead a helping hand.
