Smart Snacks Guidelines: Fruit and Vegetable Combo Foods

DESCRIPTION

Effective July 1, 2014, the Smart Snacks guidelines stipulate that combo foods must contain at least ¼ cup of fruit and/or vegetables. These foods are exempt from National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and National School Breakfast Program (NSBP) nutrient standards on the day of service and the following day. Acceptable options include fresh, frozen, or canned fruits packed in water or light syrup, as well as fresh, frozen, or canned vegetables with no added ingredients except for water or a small amount of sugar.

  2. Beverages (Effective 7-1-2014) *Includes nutritionally equivalent milk alternatives, as permitted by NSLP/SBP **May include 100% juice diluted with water (w/ or w/out carbonation) & with no added sweeteners.
