  2. Betrayal, death and resurrection of Jesus

  3. Jesus came to Jerusalem to celebrate the festival of Passover. He rode into the city on a donkey The people welcomed Him waving palm leaves and shouting Hosanna, a prayer of praise and adorations which meant ‘save (us) now’ Read (Mark 11:7-10). This marks the beginning of Holy Week which remembers the events leading up to the death and resurrection of Jesus. Today, we make crosses out of Palm Leaves. (Matthew 21:12-17).

  4. Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then He said to it, “May you never bear fruit again!” Immediately the tree withered. When the disciples saw this, they were amazed. “How did the fig tree wither so quickly?” they asked.. Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” MATHEW 21:19-22

  5. Jesus Teaching In the Temple for the last time Jesus continues to teach, telling several parables. Luke 21:37-38.

  6. Jesus was in Bethany at a man called Simon’s House. Simon suffered from a terrible skin disease While Jesus was eating Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it onJesus' feet and wiped his feet with her hair.. The disciples thought this was a waste Jesus questioned them saying the woman had anointed him and prepared him for burial.

  7. Judas went to see the Jewish leaders to betray Jesus. The Jewish leaders were more than happy with this arrangement and offered Judas some money; thirty pieces of silver. Read (Mark 14:1-12)

  8. At the Lord’s Supper today Jesus ‘commands’ his disciples to love one another. It was the Jewish festival of Passover and Jesus celebrated with his disciples in Jerusalem. Jesus changed the Passover celebration, first he washed the feet of his friends.

  9. The job of washing feet was usually a servant’s job, Jesus did this as a symbolic act to show he had come to serve and his disciples are to do the same – serve others in humble love. During the Last Supper, Jesus declared the bread and wine have become his Body and Blood. Judas slipped out during the meal to betray Jesus. Read (John 13:1-20)

  10. After the meal, Jesus and the disciples went to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray. The disciples fell asleep, and Jesus called out to God for help. This is often referred to as the agony in the garden, because Jesus knew he was going to die. Shortly afterwards, Judas arrived with soldiers to arrest Jesus, he betrayed Jesus with a kiss. Read (Mark 14:32-52)

  11. Jesus was taken to the High Priest’s house in the middle of the night. He was accused of the crime of blasphemy which means speaking against religion. Many lies were told against Jesus but the evidence against him did not add up. Read ( Mark 14:53-72)

  12. Jesus was handed over to the Roman Governor Pontius Pilate. It was the custom at this time for the Romans to release a prisoner because it was Passover. The High Priests bribed the crowd to shout for Barabbus. So Barabbas was freed and Jesus was sent to the cross.

  13. Jesus was whipped, and was made to wear a crown of thorns. The soldiers dressed him in a robe and mocked him. Jesus was made to carry the cross through the streets of Jerusalem until he reached Golgotha (the place of the skull) on the outskirts of the city.

  14. The Roman soldiers divided Jesus’ clothes among themselves by throwing a dice. Jesus was taken down from the cross because it was the Sabbath. The body of Jesus was given to Joseph of Arimathea, he wrapped the body in a sheet and placed it in a new tomb. (Mark 15: 42ff.)

  15. The tomb was sealed, or guarded.

  16. The woman went to the tomb early in the morning to anoint Jesus’ body with spices they had prepared. When they reached the tomb, the tomb was empty. In John’s account Jesus appears to Mary Magdalene, she mistakes him for a gardener. One or two angels appeared and announce that Jesus has risen from the dead.

  17. Easter is the celebration of Jesus’ triumph over death, proving He is the Son of God.
