  1. Welcome to“Quantum Engineering of States and Devices”!

  2. The program Aims: To bring together leading experts on various aspects related to Q. E. S. D. To provide young researchers with the opportunity to be exposed to recent progresses in Q. E. S. D. To test how different systems may be treated with common theoretical paradigms A deliberately wide range of topics addressed in the lectures

  3. Theory Physical Systems • Quantum hybrid systems • Superconductors • Cold atoms • 2D electron gases • Quantum Hall states • Trapped ions • Biological systems • Quantum interferometers • … • Quantum entanglement • Topological order & quantum computation • Majorana zero modes • Quantum impurities & BCFT • Non-equilibrium transport • Quenches in quantum systems • … Engineering of Quantum Devices

  4. Why now? We judged it was timely, and we are happy to see that we were not the only ones: • Perimeter Institute (May 2010) • MPI Dresden (June 15-25 2010) • Bad Honnef (June 14-18 2010) • … Round Table discussion on Tuesday, 20:00

  5. Few announcements: • All sessions will be recorded and made available on the web; • Speakers are kindly requested to put their presentations on the “official” computer; • There are two poster sessions on Sunday and Monday (at 20:30): prizes for the two better posters • Tuesday afternoon will be dedicated to walk on the mountains and/or discussions; • Tuesday evening round table discussion (at 20:00); • Wednesday evening Conference dinner at 19:00. Enjoy (the rather dense program…) !
