  1. CmpE 294Feedback Celebrate !!!

  2. Celebrate!!! • The book Everyday Editing is written with a primary objective of providing tips and tricks to the middle school English teachers. The author offers a fresh perspective on teaching grammar to students. With over 10 years of experience using traditional approach, the author has a solid background when it comes to presenting the disadvantages of the old method of teaching.

  3. What to improve??? • “A primary objective” are there other primary objectives? • the traditional approach

  4. Who is the Author??? • Jeff Anderson • Anderson • Author • The author • He • Jeff

  5. Were you excited??? • What does it mean to be excited? • When was the last time you were excited? • Would someone believe you were excited by the book? • What happens if they do not believe you?

  6. Articles • Missing articles continue to be a problem. • Missing articles at the beginning of a sentence.

  7. The preposition “ON” • A preposition is a word that links a noun or pronoun to another sentence element by expressing such a relationship as location i.e. “on.” • When using the preposition “on” determine if a location is really involved or would a better choice be “about?”

  8. The trouble with Idioms. • An idiom is a group of words that has a special meaning apart from its literal meaning. • For example: call on, keep on. • The trouble is that there is no sure system to explain such usages!

  9. Setting the context • Jeff Anderson in his book “Everyday Editing” made me feel as if I had been in the class where “Ralphie” was handed the submitted essay with 30 red marks. • What assumptions does the writer make?

  10. The truth of statements • Anderson has done an exhaustive field study to come up with 8 major steps which make a student learn without being bothered of grammatical errors. • What is an exhaustive study? • What image do you get from “bothered of grammatical errors?”

  11. A true statement??? • Unlike any other book, “Everyday Editing” by Jeff Anderson is really a masterpiece. • What meaning does the writer want to convey? • How do you react to such statements?

  12. True statement??? • Jeff Anderson, in his book Everyday Editing, has done an awesome job by providing a guide for teachers that can be followed to make such classes a wonderful experience.

  13. Truth in the context of work. • What is the role of truth in the context of work? • In what context do words such as: exhaustive, wonderful, awesome and masterpiece fit?

  14. Looking for clarity • In the information laden world, where there is no dearth of guidance, it is a visual treat to find a book that not only guides and teaches, but cruises you through the subtleties of grammar. Grammar is not just about conveying effectively, but communicating. • What is the clear meaning of the writer?

  15. What does this really mean? • He stresses on encouragement provided to a student’s work, which will help in invoking confidence and thus influencing that individual to do a good job. • What would be clearer?

  16. Does being creative add to clarity??? • I like the way the author encourages and promotes creative liberty in writing and editing. • What doe being creative in editing really mean?

  17. Who is it??? • His (Jeff Anderson’s) method is to invite the students in the process and give them the driver’s seat. That way, the students are more engaged and they learn more clearly. His approach is to develop a thought pattern within the student that stays with him after he leaves the class. That would definitely be very effective and a lot of teachers would agree with him.

  18. On??? • The objective if this paper is to present a review on “Everyday Editing” book by Jeff Anderson.

  19. A comparison with what??? • I liked the point that the author felt that developing a positive attitude in students is more important. He tired to develop a positive attitude by first telling positive point in a student’s work rather than highlighting his weak areas.

  20. A tip! • It may be time consuming but retyping your paper is a good way to ensure actually read every word of your paper.

  21. Reminder!!! • Plagiarism using someone else’s work and presenting it as your own. • Turnitin.com has a record of every paper turned in for this class. • If you are caught the incident will be reported.
