  4. Key definitions Employability: Employability refers to the attributes of a person that make that person able to gain and maintain employment. Job: A position, often paid, in which the person has completed allocated work. Career: An occupation undertaken for a significant period of life with opportunities for progression Work experience: An unpaid placement or opportunity to develop the employability skills linked to a certain job or environment

  7. The curriculum We have employment aspirations for all our learners and recognise that employment outcomes may be different for each of them. Employment has an important role to play in quality-of-life and can help young people feel grounded in their community, giving them a sense of value and purpose. Identifying local employment needs and options is crucial, as well as understanding that having a job is not always Monday to Friday, 9 to 5pm.
