  1. The Relation Between Thyroid Disease & Diabetes

  2. Thyroid and Diabetes, two very common diseases affecting the current generation. Though very common, it’s very little that people know about these diseases, symptoms and treatment options. Thyroid specialists in Delhi suggest that both Thyroid and Diabetes are endocrine, or hormonal problems. Thyroid is a gland that is located in the lower neck region and helps play a major role in maintaining the rate at which body utilizes energy from the food we consume.

  3. Diabetes specialiststate that people suffering from type 1 and type 2 diabetes are highly prone to developing thyroid disease. One is suffering from Thyroid if the gland starts to malfunction and the hormone levels fluctuate quickly.

  4. Thyroid disease can be of two types, hyperthyroidism – when the gland starts producing too much hormones, resulting in a very fast metabolism; hypothyroidism - when the gland produces little or no hormone, resulting in a slow metabolism. This change in level of hormone is not good for our body. The best endocrinologist in Delhi claim that hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism can cause complications in controlling the blood glucose levels of your body.

  5. Effects of Thyroid on Diabetic Patients Diabetes specialist in Delhi claim that if a diabetic person is affected by any type of thyroid disease, the sugar level in the blood is even more difficult to control. They explain that both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism have different impact on one’s blood sugar control and diabetes.

  6. In case a person suffers from hyperthyroidism, the metabolism rate of the body increases immensely. This also affects how our body reacts to medicinal intake. Usually any medicine, not just diabetic medicine, gets absorbed by the body much quicker than normal. This means that the blood sugar may rise eventually during the day as the usual dosage was absorbed by the body very quickly.

  7. Whereas, in case of a person suffering from hypothyroidism, the body produces lesser Thyroid hormone which in turn leads to a slower metabolism rate. This may lead to a drop in the blood sugar levels. Due to slower metabolism, the medicine does not get absorbed by the body easily. Which means that the medicine has a lasting effect as it stays in the body for a longer duration. Severaldiabetes specialist in Delhisuggest that the patients should reduce their dosage of diabetic medicine to prevent any harmful side effects.

  8. There are different ways to combat the onset and effect of these two diseases simultaneously. As both are hormonal diseases it is very important to restrict oneself to some dietary and lifestyle changes. They will help maintain your hormonal level, whilst keeping your diabetes in check. Once detected it is also advisable to go for regular tests and check-ups to keep a tab on your body’s thyroid hormone level. In case of hyperthyroidism, doctors suggest taking anti-thyroid pills or medicines to balance the level of hormones in the body. Similarly in the case of hypothyroidism, doctors suggest taking a synthetic version of hormone to increase the level thyroid in the body.
