Factors that influenced my Final Concept Map • Previous Concept Map (design, feedback, reflection etc) • Technology available (iPad with highly versatile Mindjet application) • Enhanced understanding of the concepts, having gone through EDIDs 6503 and 6501 (MetaCognitive assessment) • Further realization of concepts and links while writing Reflections • Sustained desire to link all associated knowledge in the field of IT in a coherent manner.

  6. Reflections The esteemed endeavour of the EDID 6503 Course has effectively enhanced my understanding of the field of Instructional Technology (IT). I have changed the way that I organize my knowledge of the field of IT as a whole, in addition to my views on Instructional Design and Distance Learning – afterall, the common view I find is based on how the latter two fit within the overall framework of IT. I became intrigued by the manner in which certain concepts were introduced and then discussed to aid understanding. Throughout this process, I restructured and refined my Beginning Concept Map each step of the way. Concepts such as “Learning versus Instruction”, “Instructional Approaches versus Outcomes” and “Knowledge versus Skill versus Affective Capacities” were adequately and appropriately covered in the endeavour. I now feel in my mind very strong impressions of a well developed theoretical framework which will undoubtedly guide my further explorations into the field of IT.

  7. Reflections I am also able to visualize the various gaps between my entry-level understanding and my current understanding of IT. Quite frankly, my Beginning Course Concept Map it now pales in comparison to my Final Concept Map. The major, fundamental change involves the fact that I now see Distance Learning and Instructional Design as both subordinate to Instructional Technology. By virtue of the theoretical reinforcement I received, I can now establish links between all the subordinate areas of these three main topics. I am also able to appreciate the professional field of IT and what it represents as a whole, especially in my capacity as a military training development officer.
