  1. Darkness Luke 22:53 “This hour and the power of darkness are yours”

  2. Darkness Descends Luke 22:3-6 Then Satan entered into Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve disciples, and he went to the leading priests and captains of the Temple guard to discuss the best way to betray Jesus to them.

  4. Darkness Descends "Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded permission to sift you like wheat; Luke 22:31 Peter said, “Lord, I am ready to go to prison with you, and even to die with you!” Luke 22:33-34

  5. Darkness Descends "Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded permission to sift you like wheat; Luke 22:31 Peter said, “Lord, I am ready to go to prison with you, and even to die with you!” Luke 22:33-34 Jesus told them, “All of you will desert me! For the Scriptures say, ‘God will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’ Mark 14:27 But Jesus said, “Peter, let me tell you something. Before the rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will deny three times that you even know me.” Luke 22:33-34

  6. Darkness Descends Luke 22:52-53 Jesus said to the chief priests and officers of the temple and elders who had come against Him, “Have you come out with swords and clubs as you would against a robber? While I was with you daily in the temple, you did not lay hands on Me.” “But this hour and the power of darkness are yours.”

  7. “the power of darkness” He said to them, “When I sent you out without money belt and bag and sandals, you did not lack anything, did you?” They said, “No, nothing.” And He said to them, “But now, whoever has a money belt is to take it along, likewise also a bag, and whoever has no sword is to sell his coat and buy one!” Luke 22:35-37 Then Jesus *said to him, "Put your sword back into its place; for all those who take up the sword shall perish by the sword. Matthew 26:52 "Or do you think that I cannot appeal to My Father, and He will at once put at My disposal more than twelve legions of angels? Matthew 26:53 Jesus answered, "My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, then My servants would be fighting so that I would not be handed over to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not of this realm." John 18:36

  8. “the power of darkness” …whoever has no sword is to sell his coat and buy one!” Luke 22:35-37 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12

  9. “the power of darkness” The world is passing away, and also its lusts. 1 John 2:17

  10. Victims in ‘The Darkness’ Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 1 John 2:15 The whole world lies in the power of the evil one. 1 John 5:19

  11. Victims in ‘The Darkness’ Then, accompanied by the disciples, Jesus left the upstairs room and went as usual to the Mount of Olives. There he told them, “Pray that you will not give in to temptation.” Luke 22:39-40 He returned to the disciples, only to find them asleep, exhausted from grief. Luke 22:45 He said to them, "Why are you sleeping? Get up and pray that you may not enter into temptation." Luke 22:46

  12. Victims in ‘The Darkness’ You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. James 4:4 “The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak." Mark 14:38

  13. Victims in ‘The Darkness’ So they arrested him and led him to the high priest’s home. And Peter followed at a distance. The guards lit a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat around it, and Peter joined them there. Luke 22:54-55 A servant girl noticed him in the firelight and began staring at him. Finally she said, “This man was one of Jesus’ followers!” But Peter denied it. “Woman,” he said, “I don’t even know him!” Luke 22:56-57 After a while someone else looked at him and said, “You must be one of them!” “No, man, I’m not!” Peter retorted. Luke 22:58 About an hour later someone else insisted, “This must be one of them, because he is a Galilean, too.” But Peter said, “Man, I don’t know what you are talking about.” Luke 22:59-60 And immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed. At that moment the Lord turned and looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered that the Lord had said, “Before the rooster crows tomorrow morning, you will deny three times that you even know me.” Luke 22:61

  14. Victims in ‘The Darkness’ Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed that he does not fall. 1 Corinthians 10:12 Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. Romans 12:15

  15. Jesus Enters the Darkness …whoever has no sword is to sell his coat and buy one!” Luke 22:35-37 And take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Ephesians 6:17 For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword…Hebrews 4:12 He held seven stars in his right hand, and a sharp two-edged sword came from his mouth. Rev. 1:12-16 I sent my prophets to cut you to pieces— to slaughter you with my words… Hosea 6:5

  16. Jesus Enters the Darkness …whoever has no sword is to sell his coat and buy one!” Luke 22:35-37 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ, 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 He wants to teach you that people do not live by bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD. Deuteronomy 8:3

  17. Jesus Enters the Darkness Luke 22:41-44 And He withdrew from them about a stone's throw, and He knelt down and began to pray, saying, "Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done." Now an angel from heaven appeared to Him, strengthening Him. "When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own house, his possessions are undisturbed. But when someone stronger than he attacks him and overpowers him, he takes away from him all his armor on which he had relied and distributes his plunder. Luke 11:21-22 I can do all things through Him who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13 And being in agony He was praying fervently; and His sweat became like drops of blood, falling down upon the ground. Now I urge you, brethren, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to strive together with me in your prayers to God for me, Romans 15:30

  18. Jesus Enters the Darkness Jesus said, “Judas, would you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?” Luke 22:48 The guards in charge of Jesus began mocking and beating him. They blindfolded him and said, “Prophesy to us! Who hit you that time?” And they hurled all sorts of terrible insults at him. Luke 22:63-65 You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world. 1 John 4:4
