  1. Revising the Revision Unit A Digital Approach to Peer Revision in the Composition Classroom

  2. This unit attempts to bring a Peer Revision process, typically held with pen and paper… I did not believe it could be done, but I was wrong. It can be done… …into a digital form.

Structure of the Revision Unit: • Mini digital-assignments will occur over the course of four Freshman English I class meetings. • Revision and reflection will take place within MSWord and on the class wikispace. • The unit is part of a larger research project. • The unit is worth 5% toward a final grade in the course. Four parts of the Revision Unit: • Responses to Essay #3 Letters & Reflection – both to occur on the class wikispace. • Revision Day 1: Peer Review on MSWord & Reflections • Revision Day 2: Peer Review on MSWord & Reviewing Argument Organization • Reflecting Reflections for Essay #3 The Four Parts

  5. Peer-to-Peer commenting and editing on informal writing assignments within on our class wikispace. Example of a New Method

From this unit, students will: • Deepen their experiences within a wikispace from writing and commenting on various wiki pages. • Learn to utilize MSWord commenting feature for making comments on peers’ papers and applying comments to their own papers. • Learn to use a cut-&-paste feature to review writing organization. Digital Literacy Outcomes

From this unit, students will learn to: • Give both constructive and positive feedback on peers’ writing. • Apply constructive revision suggestions to their own work. • Maintain a reflective practice during revision process. • Think metacognitively about their own work and thoughts.   9. Designing and creating a wiki is much easier than I thought it would be. • Experimenting with technology is well worth anyinitial frustration. • Taking risks is really what I came here to do; I’m going to take them, even if my ideas aren’t perfect. What I Learned
