  3. What is an invasive species? • An invasive species is a plant, fungus, or animal species that is not native to a specific location (an introduced species), and which has a tendency to spread to a degree believed to cause damage to the environment, human economy or human health.

  4. What are some problems caused by invasive species? ((you can’t use my examples)) • Other species become endangered • Damage to farm crops, flowers, trees, etc…

  6. Where did Rats come from? • The black rat is originally from India. It is well-adapted for tropical climates and is frequently driven out of more temperate environments by its cousin, the Norway rat. Rattusnorvegicus, the Norway rat, is actually not native to Norway. Its origins are from Northern China. From there, it spread to Europe and eventually to the Americas. Reports of these rats stowing away on America-bound ships date to the 1770s. Both species spread from coastal shipping towns to more inland areas as time went by.

  7. What can of damage do Rats cause? • Spread of disease • Damage electrical wiring • Damage roofs • Destruction of food – Rats eat 10% to 15% of their body weight each day. • Can ruin the foundation of your home – your garden – contaminate food, water, etc…
