  27. James 3: 7-10, NIV 7 All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind, 8 but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

  28. James 3: 7-10, NIV 9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. 10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.

  29. Sermonic Title "My Brothers and Sisters, This Should Not Be: Free Your Tongue From Its Identity Crisis!”

  30. James 3: 7-10, NIV The church struggles with everyone wanting to teach, instruct, or judge, without first examining their own struggle, which for all of us is controlling what we say, how we say it and why we say what we say…

  31. James 3: 7-10, NIV In other words, the mark of a mature saint is not how long your name has been on the rolls, not how long you’ve sat in the same seat doing the same thing, not the positions we think we have, not how hard we sing and how loud we shout,

  32. James 3: 7-10, NIV The tongue though small controls the whole of our lives and our destiny. Like a horse’s bit or a ship’s rudder, the tongue is small but mighty…and

  33. James 3: 7-10, NIV If left undisciplined, save, firstly by the volition/choice of the believer and the consequent sanctifying power of the Holy Ghost, the tongue is a spark of fire…

  34. James 3: 7-10, NIV Fire which comes from Hell itself…and if we allow it to, the tongue with just a little bit of a spark can set of the course of one’s life and the life of others on fire…

  35. Our Tongue is… I. A restless evil and deadly poisonous, in other words it can’t be restrained and it causes injury when let wild.

  36. Our Tongue is… II. The tongue suffers from an intense identity crisis, put plainly our tongue contradicts itself meaning we too are double-minded.

  37. Our Tongue is… A. It is a source of praise to GOD B. It is a source of cursing to GOD’s creation, our brother and sister C. It is an indicator that our heart is not unified in Christ, but disjointed, dis-unified and at war!

  38. Our Tongue is… 43 “For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. 44 For every tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush. 45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks

  39. Our Tongue is… III. Therefore we conclude, the remedy for our tongue’s identity crisis is we must undergo a change of identity within our spirit!

  42. Offertory Affirmation • Minister: We are a tithing church because the Word of God teaches tithing, our experience gives witness to tithing; our obedience to God requires tithing.

  43. Offertory Affirmation • Congregation: Then let us bring our tithes and offerings unto the Lord as He has prospered us, “for the tenth shall be holy unto the Lord.” Lev. 27:32
