What is in the VBE? • A vocabulary contains concepts or terms • It can have structure • simple lists, hierarchical taxonomies, thesauri and ontologies. • The vocabularies are used to: • define preferred words and definitions • provide controlled lists for use in metadata • share structures for navigation • carry additional information to support user interfaces or searching • provide mappings between terms
