  1. Covenant University, Ota Executive Advance August 2015 SPIRITUALITY: A Catalyst for Innovation and Product Development PresentedBy:Dr. David O. Oyedepo Chancellor, Covenant University

  2. Preamble: • The Story of a voyager that never knew that his meals were covered by his traveling ticket – 2Pet. 1:3

  3. The Story of a lion cub that lost his identity to the environment is also apt in discussing our subject – Is. 5:13

  4. We need a composite knowledge of what redemption offers us – Heb. 6:9

  5. For Example: • At Redemption, there is a ‘spiritual mind transplant’, which offers the believer the mind of Christ – 1Cor. 2:16

  6. On the other hand, the quickening power of the Spirit makes the believer of quick understanding – Is. 11:1-3

  7. The Bible notes, ‘But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding’ – Job 32:7-8

  8. Spirituality is an all-round plus in the race of life – 1Tim 4:7-8 • In particular, it is an intellectual plus – Job 32:8

  9. But what is Inspiration? The dictionary defines inspiration as follows: • The process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative. • A sudden brilliant or timely idea. • Divine guidance or influence  exerted directly on a human  mind or soul.

  10. In our context: • Inspiration can be defined as the move of the Holy Spirit within our spirit which empowers our access into the deep things of God – Job 32:7-8/ Rom. 8:16/ 1Cor. 2:9-10 • Inspiration is the gateway to supernatural Insight – Gen. 41:38 • Inspiration is key to supernatural intelligence – Dan. 1:17

  11. By inspiration, our capacity is enhanced to draw insight from all that we see, hear or read –1Kgs. 4:29-34/ Dan. 9:2

  12. The inspiration of the Holy Spirit is the gateway to ultimate wisdom – 2Tim. 3:16-17/ 2Pet. 1:19-21 • This is because divine wisdom is the ultimate wisdom – Rom. 11:33/ Jude 25 • But divine wisdom is creative, innovative and inventive – Jer. 10:12/ Pro. 8:12

  13. TWO OUTSTANDING PRODUCTS OF INSPIRATION

  14. MICHAEL FARADAY • Michael Faraday had only two years of formal education. Later became a laboratory attendant with Sir Humphrey Davies – a professor, in no time, he became the envy of his master. • He was a vast reader of spiritual materials.

  15. Michael Faraday was said to have extended his own scientific education by the most formidable programme of reading. • Faraday found an understanding of life’s purpose by studying and believing the teachings of the Bible

  16. He was a devoted Christian and he became an elder in his Church and a very celebrated preacher in his congregation. • Whenever he traveled out for scientific lectures, the first thing he would ask in any city where he arrived was, “Where is the church?” • Not surprisingly, Faraday, at forty-four, was recognized by all as the leading man of science!

  17. TRULY; Divine wisdom dwells with prudence, and finds out knowledge of witty inventions - Pro. 8:12

  18. JAMES CLERK MAXWELL • James Clerk Maxwell was a fantastic scientist, of the 19th century. • This great scientist read volumes of spiritual books. Every time he was studying, his Bible was by his side, and everywhere he went, he had a Bible in his hand.

  19. He read books written by the likes of James Owen and Jonathan Edwards, and how they imparted positively on his life and mind! • Maxwell led his family, servants and guests in fervent praises every morning! • One of his biographers noted, “There is no doubting the fact that James Clerk Maxwell’s spiritual involvement was what was responsible for his fertile mind.”

  20. James Clerk Maxwell never missed Sunday worship and spent hours in the enjoyment of his Bible. • His continuously active cultivation of religion, like Faraday’s, had a very important relation to the course of his intellectual life. • James Clerk Maxwell was universally regarded as the greatest physicist of the 19th century.

  21. SOME MANIFESTATIONS OF DIVINE WISDOM

  22. Creative Insight after the order of Jacob – Gen. 30:31-40/ Pro. 8:12 • Path-finding Insight after the order of Joseph – Gen. 41:38-44

  23. Far-reaching Insight after the order of David – 2Sam. 14:20 • Pace-Setting Insight after the order of Solomon – 1Kgs. 4:21-24

  24. Impact-generating Insight after the order of Daniel – Dan. 5:11 • Trail-Blazing Insight after the order of Paul – 2Pet. 2:15

  25. KEYS TO FLOWING IN INSPIRATION

  26. Engaging the ministry of the Holy Spirit – Job 32:8/ 1Cor. 2:10 • A Prayerful Life – Dan. 2:16-19/ Jam.1:5
