  1. Great Beginnings Parent Information Night

  2. Who • Children who qualify for service under Early Childhood Special Education and have an IEP (Individualized Education Plan). • Children who qualify through screening for Title Preschool. • Students 10/1 Teacher & 1 ½ Paraprofessional • Exceptions • Pre-K room which could house 15 to 1 Teacher and 1 1/2Paraprofessional • STARS room is one student to one adult • Self Contained room will vary by individual needs *Headstart is also housed in our building.

  3. All Children Deserve Great Beginnings • Anonymous donor gave a $2 million community challenge gift • Capital campaign to raise $6 million • 14 classrooms • State of the art outdoor play environment • Health room • Kitchen and laundry facility

  4. Curriculum • Project Construct - http://www.projectconstruct.org/ • Missouri Early Learning Standards • http://dese.mo.gov/divimprove/fedprog/earlychild/PreK_Standards/Index.html • Individualized Instruction • Therapies as indicated in the IEP

  5. Library, Recess, Motor Time • Your child’s class will visit the library weekly for a story and lesson. One book will be checked out each week, due the next week. • Recess will occur if the temperature is at/above 20 degrees or the wind-chill is at/above 20 degrees. • Motor time will occur weekly as a class in the Multipurpose Room.

  6. What to wear?? • Children will play outside • Children will paint, marker, craft • Children will play in texture tables (sand, rice, cornmeal) • Children will use scissors • Children will run, trike, sit on the floor

  7. Snack • We do not provide breakfast or lunch. • Please make sure your child has had a good meal before coming to school. • Snack calendars may be provided by your teacher each month. It will have suggested snacks and your child’s assigned day to provide snacks. • Snack time serves as a lesson time for self help skills and language building.

  8. Bus Rider • Children need to be buckled by you when picked up • Children will be buckled by teachers/bus aides when going home • Adult must be visible at drop off and if child needs assistance must board the bus and unbuckle the child. • No Food on the bus • 3 days notice for any changes • Call if your child will not ride that day 986-2400

  9. Car Rider • Buckle up • Arrive up to 10 minutes prior to start of school and 10 minutes before dismissal • Pull into front circle, bring your child in or come in to pick them up • Sign your child out at dismissal • Do not leave items unattended in your car • It is against the law in Lee’s Summit to leave children under the age of 12 years in a car alone. Police patrol often.

  10. Meet the Teacher • August 16, 2010 • Open House format from 4:00-6:00 pm • Children attend this event • May bring school supplies • Will meet teacher and explore room • As a family, take time to explore the other important parts of the building. You may play on the playground when you finish.

  11. First Day of School • August 23, 2010 – different from district • Buckle your child in and take lots of pictures • If bus rider, you can follow the bus for more photos as they get off the bus. • Your invited to the “Boo-hoo Bunch” group from 9:15-9:30 or 1:-15-1:30. Meet other parents and find out more about volunteering and our PTA (Parent Teacher Association). • Try not to linger outside of your child’s classroom and save questions for the teacher, her focus is on each child. • Please consider YOUR child and what will make their first day a success.

  12. TEAM WORK • Communicate with your child’s teacher. Let them know when there has been changes in your child’s life/routine. Share your concerns and celebrations. • Ask questions…..send notes, e-mail or voicemail. • Visit our website http://ecc.leesummit.k12.mo.us/ • Newsletters are sent home on Thursdays by each teacher and a monthly Great Beginnings newsletter will be available electronically. Must confirm 3)Receive a “Welcome” email confirming your subscription

  13. Parenting for success… • Attendance – send them to school regularly, only missing for illness. • Check backpacks daily- read all notes sent home from school • Read Daily- READ READ READ • Actively participate in homework type activities with your child. • Attend school activities. • Ensure your child gets enough rest. • Ensure your child has had a good meal. • Participate in Parent Teacher Conferences

Read…Read…Read… • Children who are read to at least 3 times a week by a family member are twice as likely to score in the top 25% in reading than children who were read to less than 3 times a week. • Reading is one of the MOST important things you can do to help your child be successful in school in the future!!!!!!!

  16. PTA…Parent Teacher Association • Preschool PTA is a volunteer organization that is specifically designed for parents of young children birth to five years. • The goal is to expand adult and children’s activities and supply educators need. • Membership and volunteer sign up will be available tonight and at Meet the Teacher Night.

  17. Fundraising • Save Campbell's “Labels for Education” • Save LS Hy-Vee receipts • Printer cartridges – drop at front office • Summer Movie Passes – available Spring • Recycle bin – north parking lot • Accepts- newspapers, office paper, magazines, cereal boxes & cardboard, #1-#7 plastic containers, aluminum cans, junk mail, catalogs & brochurs
