  1. Skills and Techniques Lesson 8

  2. Today we will... • Recap the different types of feedback. • Learn how to give effective feedback. • Revise our weakest areas of Skills and Techniques and give our classmates feedback.

  3. Feedback • Feedback is information you receive on your performance.

  4. Why is feedback important? • Allows you to identify your strengths and weaknesses. • Understanding your strengths and weaknesses allows you to alter your performance to make it more effective. • Receiving praise builds a performers confidence.

  5. What types of feedback have you received on your performance during PE?

  6. Watch this learner perform a skill...

  7. Things to remember when giving feedback... • ‘That was mince Lativy! You were pure heavy no able to bounce the baw!’ • ‘That was much better than last time. Next time try to take more steps in between each bounce so you are better prepared.’ • It must be positive. Positive feedback focuses on what you did well and suggests how you can develop further.

  8. Things to remember when giving feedback... • ‘You need to hold the ball long ways, bounce it with one hand, slow your jog down. Oh, and keep your head up!’ • ‘Always hold the ball long ways and to use only one hand when you are bouncing it.’ • Don’t give to much information. This will only confuse the learner.

  9. Things to remember when giving feedback... • Is feedback more effective straight after your performance or a couple of days after you have performed? • Give feedback as soon as possible. This will allow changes to be made straight away.

  10. Homework • Due for Wednesday 11th November 2009. • What is feedback? • Why is it important? • Give two different types of feedback and the ways in which you can receive these types of feedback. • What three things should you remember when giving a learner feedback?

  11. Revision Task • Choose a question from the list that you will find hardest to answer. • Write an answer for your chosen question. • Speak to your ‘expert’ who will give you feedback and help you understand the area. (Experts should remember how to give effective feedback.)

  12. Skills and TechniquesRevision Questions • Describe a skill that was a weakness in your performance. • How did you gather data on your weakness? • Describe a series of practices you used to develop your weakness. • Why were these practices appropriate? • How did improving your weakness help your overall performance?
