  3. Formula Calculation Rules • Each Single Student Enrollment in Each Section Generates Separately • Each Student Has a Funding Level Based on His or Her Classification • Each Course Has a Funding Group Based on Its Subject Matter • Each Course Has a Funding Level

Calculations • To Get the Value of Each SCH Multiply the Dollar Multiplier for the Current Year by the Formula Number for the Student and Course • Funding Is at the Minimum of the Student and the Course • Example: A Senior Taking a Sophomore Level Music Course (Fine Arts Group) Funds at 1.85 X the Dollar Multiplier

What Counts and What Doesn’t • With a Couple of Exceptions, Only Three Things Count – the Student’s Level, the Course’s Level, and the Course’s Funding Group • Class Size, Mode of Instruction, Location, And Contact Hours Do Not Count • Exceptions- 30 Hour Rule, 99 Hour Rule, Undergraduate Supplement

  8. Why It Matters • Example – A Three Hour Enrollment in a Doctoral Level Engineering Course by a Doctoral Student Earned 3 X 21.40 X $54.44 = $3595.04 X 2 = $6990.10. The Same Enrollment by a Masters Level Student Earned 3 X 8.20 X $54.44 = $1339.22 X 2 = $2678.44

  9. How to Manage It • Be Honest – A Course in Chaucer Doesn’t Belong in the Engineering Funding Group Even If It Would Pay Off Better • Be Aggressive – A Course in Entomology Might Easily Qualify for Either an Agriculture or a Science Grouping. Pick the One that Funds Better

  10. Specific Suggestions • Classify Graduate Students Correctly – It Pays to Be a Doctoral Student • Pick the More Advantageous Funding Group When You Create a New Course or Change an Old One • Make Graduate Courses Doctoral Level Courses
