Introduction • Subject: Art – the Color Wheel • Grade level: 2nd and 3rd grade students • Objective: To learn about what goes into the color wheel and how to mix and make the primary, secondary and tertiary colors. Using the ODE standard Creative Expression and Communication for fine arts. • Directions: Read through the lesson portion and then take the quiz to see what you have learned.

Lesson Directions • Here is where you will find the information for your lesson on the color wheel. • After the lesson you will take a multiple choice quiz on what you just went over • Use the rainbow buttons at the bottom of the slides to either move back and forth between the lesson or to go the home page.   4. Welcome to the world of color! A Wheel of Color A color wheel is an illustrative organization of color hues through the use of primary colors and secondary colors as well as tertiary colors. It is a very useful tool in helping us to understand how to mix and make these colors. In the next slides you will see what colors go into making up the color wheel. Home

  5. Primary Colors Primary colors are colors that all other colors are derived from. And these are Red Blue Yellow Home

  6. Secondary Colors Secondary colors are formed by mixed the primary colors and are known as Green Orange Violet Home

  7. Tertiary Colors Tertiary Colors are colors that are formed by mixing a primary and a secondary color. These hue’s have two word names Blue-Green Red-Violet Yellow-Orange Home

  8. Basic Color Wheel As you can see the largest spots are the Primary colors (Red, Blue and Yellow) The medium size spots are your Secondary colors (Violet, Orange and Green) With the Tertiary colors making up the smaller spots Home

Quick Examples • Primary Red mixed with Primary Blue will create Secondary Violet • Primary Blue mixed with Primary Yellow will create Secondary Green • Primary Blue mixed with Secondary Green will create Tertiary Blue-Green So are you ready for the Quiz?
