The Grade 11 Media Studies course empowers students to understand and use media communication in the 21st century. Through analysis of various media texts and their audience responses, students will create their own media products. This course requires Grade 10 Academic or Applied English as a prerequisite. Simultaneously, the Presentation and Speaking Skills course equips students with techniques for effective speaking and presentation. Grade 11 University English is required for this course. Together, these electives build foundational skills in media, communication, and writing for future success.

EMS3O1 Media StudiesThis course will enable students to understand media communication in the twenty-first century and to use media effectively and responsibly. Students will analyse forms and messages of a variety of media texts and audience responses to them, and also create their own media products.Prerequisite: Grade 10 Academic or Applied English
This course emphasizes the knowledge and skills required to plan and make effective presentations and to speak effectively in formal and informal contexts. Students will research and analyse the content and characteristics of convincing speeches, design and rehearse presentations for a variety of purposes and audiences, select and use visual and technological aids to enhance their message, and assess their own and others’ presentations. • Prerequisite: Grade 10 Academic or Applied English 2. EMS301 Presentation and Speaking Skills
Students in this course will analyse models of effective writing, use a workshop approach to produce a range of works, identify techniques for different forms of writing, and practice effective ways to improve the quality of their writing. This course is for students with a special interest in literature and literary criticism. They will analyse a range of literary texts and respond personally, critically, and creatively to them.
