Smarter Balanced Assessment Pilot Insights from Hemlock Elementary School's ELA and Math Prep

In 2013, Hemlock Elementary School participated in the Smarter Balanced Assessment Pilot, focusing on 6th Grade ELA and 5th Grade Math. With a small student body of 300, our computer lab facilitated practice sessions, emphasizing test design familiarity and individual readiness. We engaged students in various preparatory activities: practice tests, webinars, and using technology effectively, including calculators and keyboarding skills. Teachers and administrators collaborated closely, ensuring a supportive environment for testing, culminating in enriched writing experiences and enhanced critical thinking skills.
