Hemostasis • Vascular Spasms –smooth muscle in wall of vessel contracts • Platelet Plug Formation –exposed collagen from basement layer of vessel causes platelets to become sticky • Coagulation: • Injured tissues release tissue factor (TF) • TF interacts with phospholipids of platelet membrane and clotting factors circulating in blood to form Thrombin • Thrombin and fibrin join together to form clot • Fibrin strands retract releasing serum, pulling edges of vessel together
