  1. AMS-02 Magnetic Field Measurement Prof. Chin E. Lin, NCKU, TNN TIM Jan. 09, 2007

  2. AMS-02 Magnetic Field • AMS-02 magnetic field measurement to identify the interior magnetic field by a servo system in planar scanning • The exterior magnetic field is only identified by some specified locations

  3. Fixture Design Concept

  4. Actual Fixture on Mockup

  5. Fixture Tests • We use wooden mock-up to carry on our calibration test and field measurement test at NCKU

  6. Mount Support on Mock-up

  7. Fixture on Mock-up in NCKU

  8. Fixture on AMS-01 Sensor in position

  9. Fixture on AMS-01 Sensor position calibration Hall Sensor Hall Sensor

  10. Magnetic Field Sensor • We use a SYPRIS Co. F. W. BELL Model 7030 Gauss/Tesla Meter, with 3D probe for 300 k Gauss(30 Tesla)in 1 m Gauss(0.1 μ Tesla)resolution

  11. Origin Calibration • Use laser pointer on both X and Y axes to project an intersection to identify as its origin of probe scanning

  12. Origin Calibration • Laser positioning calibration

  13. Field Mapping • AMS-02 magnetic field mapping will run a little more than one quarter of the overall interior volume, assuming the field distribution is x- and y- symmetrical. • Initially, we need to identify the symmetry by a few symmetrical locations • The servo system is controlled to run only one quarter. Otherwise, we have to do full plane mapping.

  14. Mapping Plane

  15. Where to Mount • On the original design, we found from the four mounting holes to use. • However, currently, the temp O-ring has four seal attachments using the same mounting holes. • Can they be shifted ?

  16. Fixture Mounting

  17. Temp O-Ring

  18. Considering O-Ring • We reduce the planar size to consider the temporary O-ring. The scanning distance is 80 mm less in diameter. • The scanning control software is adjustable to fit for O-ring.

  19. Measurement in SCL • We try to finish the AMS-02 interior field measurement within 7 days • We need to prepare 1-2 days before mounting on to AMS-02 • The fixture is about 500 lbs. We need help by a crane to lift it up.

  20. Fixture Shipping • The measurement fixture shipping to Oxford takes 6-8 weeks. • We will be ready anytime from today.

  21. AMS-01 Tests

  22. Fixture on AMS-01 Tests • We have used the measurement fixture to finish AMS-01 magnetic field measurement.

  29. AMS-01 Magnetic Field Profile

  30. Exterior Measurement • Due to CSIST site constraint where AMS01 is located, we can only measure half spherical for less than 2 meters outside the main body • From an axis, locating at 120 degree, to both side with each step of 15 degree, at 1 meter and 1.5 meter from top to down
