  1. Step 1. Brainstorm your “home-base” question with your group. Do you agree/disagree with the statement? Support your opinion with evidence from the text. (10 min)

  2. Step 2: Cycle to next statement. Read statement and responses to statement. Group brainstorms ideas based on topic and responds by agreeing with more evidence or disagreeing with new evidence. (it is acceptable and even encouraged to play “devil’s advocate” with the statement) (5 min/poster)

  3. Step 3: Repeat step 2 throughout rest of posters until you reach your “home base” question. Read all of groups’ responses and discuss prompt again with new insight.

  4. Step 4: Write reflection in notebook: What new thing did you learn today during the activity? What idea did you have solidified for you? Explain with specific references to responses on the posters. Ex. For Q#1, I had not thought about…..but it was made clearer to me when Betty made the point that…

  5. 1. Heathcliff is justified in using young Linton to exact his revenge.2. Heathcliff’s “curse” on Catherine is justified.3. Nelly is a good, loyal servant with no reason to manipulate the story.
