  3. What is Suominet? • Real time integrated atmospheric water vapor from GPS. Network of global stations taking measurements • Provides total slant path water vapor retrievals • Selected stations provide 3-D water vapor retrievals • SuomiNetnetwork started in 1990’s • University driven, funded by NSF • Water vapor is highly variable throughout the atmosphere and poorly characterized. • In order to be useful for forecasting it must be available in near realtime. • SuomiNetnetwork was derived for this purpose… • Improvements for short-term forecasting

Accessing the Data • Data ingested every 30 minutes • Can be ingested every minute upon demand • Raw and derived data products available • Raw observations – rinex format • Default format – netcdf available via ldm • asciitext files • LDM – local data manager • Transfers data to Unidatain minutes • FTP • Suominet website
