Module 2: Health and Nutrition • Breastfeed infants exclusively for 6 months (taking into account the special needs of HIV+ women) • Starting at 6 months of age, feed children freshly prepared energy and nutrient-rich complementary foods. • Continue to breastfeed up to 2 years or longer unless HIV positive.

  3. Module 2: Health and Nutrition • Provide children with a variety of food to ensure adequate amounts of vitamins and minerals • Dispose of faeces safely, and wash hands with soap after defaecation and before preparing meals and feeding children

  4. Module 2: Health and Nutrition • In malaria endemic areas, take children with a fever for healthcare early. • Communities should allow indoor insecticide house spraying.

  5. Module 2: Health and Nutrition • Adopt and sustain appropriate behaviours regarding HIV/AIDS prevention and care for the sick and orphans • Continue to feed and offer more fluids to children when they are sick • Give sick children appropriate home treatment for illness

Module 2: Health and Nutrition • Take children as scheduled to complete a full course of immunisation • Recognise when sick children need treatment outside the home and take them for health care to the appropriate providers • Follow recommendations given by health workers in relation to treatment, follow-up and referral

Module 2: Health and Nutrition • Ensure that every pregnant woman receives the 5 antenatal visits, the recommended doses of tetanus toxoid vaccination and that she is supported by family and community in seeking appropriate care, especially at the time of delivery and during the postpartum/lactation period

  8. Module 2: Health and Nutrition • Ensure that men actively participate in provision of childcare, and are involved in reproductive health initiatives • Good healthy care and nutrition will ensure that a child is happy and healthy
