  3. Definition What is a partnership? An agreement between the Library and another organization (or business)for the purpose of providing educational or enrichment programs or services to our community. • Partners must be unbiased • Must fit NPL’s mission

Benefits Why partner? • Expand library’s mission of serving our community • Mutually beneficial / pool resources • Builds community relations / rapport • Offer unique free programs to our community • Provides a way to meet the changing needs of our community • Serves as a support for large initiatives • Potential to reach larger audience

Gaining Community Support Developing partnerships • Define initiative goals & partnership goals • Invite key potential partners to a breakfast or lunch meeting • Explain the “Clear” scope of initiative • Outline ways in which organizations could participate • Explain mutual benefits to partners • Implement plan / initiative

  6. About HWW A year long community-wide initiative educating the Naperville community about physical and financial literacy

  7. Inception How HWW started • Alice Wood, Wealth Watchers Foundation • High debt / stress related health issues • Outlined HWW initiative • Invited key community organizations to a breakfast • Wrote a press release seeking specific partners and announcing initiative • Hosted a kick-off event

  8. Planning Characteristics • Community Driven: led by library, but involving diverse businesses and organizations • Simple: use existing resources, expertise, and programs • Recognizable Brand: logo and slogan • Scalable: can be duplicated in libraries of all sizes and budgets

  9. Plan Outline of HWW Initiative Planned Activities at NPL: 1. Journals to document and monitor daily/weekly /monthly goals 2. Kiosks to access resources on health and finance 4. An Internet page hosted by the Library to share relevant partnership and community information, links, and blogs 5. Monthly drawings for prizes 7. Offered a series of health and financial programs to include lectures and workshops 8. Kickoff / final event Ways To Partner: 1. Host an event/information session at your location 2. Cross promote your health or financial programs with Healthy, Wealthy, & Wise 3. Offer a speaker to present at the Library 4. Help us promote this year-long program
