MSPP: Building Statewide Capacity to Improve Teaching & Learning in STEM Problem Based Learning Geospatial Technologies Problem Based Learning ePortfolio & Web 2.0 Tools Problem Based Learning Geospatial Technologies PD: Instructional Coaches, Learning Teams, & Academies Information Literacy and Effective Use of a Research Model Best Practices Model and District STEM Initiatives

  4. Overview and Status Update • Provided for Learning Team members at Academies • Teacher/Student copies of two textbooks (“Issues Investigations” and “Mapping Our World”) • 8 gig flash drive containing data needed for lessons • Notebook of lessons • A supportive environment

  5. Regions Using Hotels • Hotel booking process – for only counties where this is applicable • Participants will be provided $25/day if food is not already arranged • Accommodations/food for other academies will require contracts and/or invoices

Overview and Status Updates To Dos for each county: • purchase a GPS unit for each Learning Team member and 29 GPS units for each Learning Team member’s class • purchase two AA batteries for each GPS unit (total of 60– 2 teacher, 58 students) • purchase 58 eight gig flash drives for students (daily use and one back-up)

  8. Learning Team Participants Equipment & Options • A survey will be available during academies • reflect each teacher’s equipment needs • Results shared to help determine purchases • county contacts, • instructional coaches • regional leads

Learning Team ParticipantsEquipment • 30 GPS units standard pack for all participants • A lump sum of $5,250 per participant has been allocated for equipment purchases (prices are estimates - see other options on next slide): • Laptop computer ($1,800) • Interactive whiteboard device ($1,200) • Wireless adaptor ($200) • Document camera ($1000) • LCD projector ($800) • Flip HD video camera ($250)

Learning Team ParticipantsOptions Optional Equipment (this list may grow): • Mounting of Equipment • Equipment cart to house laptop, document camera, and projector • Audio enhancement system • Student response clickers • “Short throw” projector • Dual platform software for Macintosh * For counties wishing to include equipment not on the list, a justification will be required stating how the equipment will support grant goals. Please send to Sara for approval. seger@aacps.org

Incomplete Teams and Non-Publics • If you do not have a complete team with 6 members, your C-125 will be adjusted accordingly • Keep the non-public school team members informed and included in all activities • Non-publics are included in your C-125 figures. Your budget folks will need to create separate account numbers for them

Next Steps • Conduct Summer Academies – remember that the model lesson is designed to show the participants how to use and incorporate the various components, software, strategies and hardware. • use/modify the model lessons or • create their own lessons based upon grade, content, or IDT using county STEM initiatives that incorporate all components • C-125’s submitted • Order equipment • Professional Development Plan completed and shared • The next teleconference is scheduled for August 19th, 9–10 AM
