MISSION To establish an organization for marketing and distribution of a locally-grown supply of fresh, quality products to preserve small family farms through environmentally friendly sustainable agriculture. Through these actions, this organization embraces seasonality, preserves diversity and, with good agricultural practices, supports local economics in Rockingham County and throughout the region

  3. History of Coalition • Cooperative Extension organized farmers and other stakeholders in December 2008 • Organization formalized as non-profit corporation in fall 2009 • Stokes County became partner in 2009 • Acquired 501(c)3 status in 2010 (began process in 2009) • Launched website for piedmontlocalfood.com in April 2010, with strong partnership of RC Business & Technology Center

PiedmontLocalFood project • Over 60 farmers from six Piedmont counties participating • Provide farm profile • List product for sale at their price • Over 600 registered buyers • Browse piedmontlocalfood.com • Choose desired foods/delivery location • Pay with credit card • Weekly delivery throughout Triad

  5. County Resolutions Guilford County and Rockingham County Commissioners passed 10% Campaign Resolution that included promotion of PiedmontLocalFood.com as wellness initiative for county employees

  6. Rockingham County Farmers Market • Opened May, 2005 • Farmer-run, self-sustaining project • Came under umbrella of Local Food Coalition May, 2012

  7. Rockingham Community Kitchen • Began in 2006 by renovating underused kitchen • Provided start-up funds for PLF • Officially became part of Food Coalition umbrella July, 2012

  8. Community Gardens Community Gardens work began in 2010 as a grant-funded Cooperative Extension project—anticipated to come under Food Coalition umbrella in 2013.
