  2. Growing up… • Born February 26,1932 in Arkansas • 4 years old knew he wanted to sing on the radio • Supportive mother musically • 3rd voice lesson he was instructed to do it his way

  3. Figuring things out… • 1950 graduated high school and joined the Air force • 1954 moved to Memphis to aggressively chase a record deal • Sun Records signed him after much effort on Johnny’s part

  4. Making a mark… • “Cry, Cry, Cry” - #14 • “Folsom Prison Blues” -#10 • “I Walk the Line” –Sold 2 million copies.

  5. The man in black… • “Hello, I’m Johnny Cash.” • 1958 switched to Columbia Records • “Ring of Fire” • Performances in black earned him the title…

  6. Uh-oh, here comes trouble… • Overwhelming success • Drugs and Alcohol • Missing shows

  7. Now here comes June… • Johnny credits June and her God for saving his life • 1967 he was sober and clean • 1968 Johnny and June were married
