  3. Daily Language Practice • 1. Yoshiko Uchidas experience did not turn her into a bitter angry person. (2) • 2. After her release, she became a teacher and a writer, her theme was tolerance for all people and races. (1)

  4. Please do now… • Think about something you did over the 3 day weekend. • Write at least 5 lines about it.

  5. Vocabulary Unit One • With a partner • 4 minutes • Actively practice spelling. • Return to seat before time is up.

  6. Ex. 3, p. 312 • The U.S. Postal Service was established by the government. The position of postmaster general was created to supervise the mail service. The first postmaster general was Benjamin Franklin. The pony express was started by the United States Post Office. The riders carried the mail on horseback and were known for the prompt delivery. Mail was also carried on stagecoaches. Today, the United States Postal Service is self-supporting and is exploring many new technologies.

  7. Using Common and Proper Nouns • P. 313 in your WRITING AND GRAMMAR book. • Read p. 313 • Homework: Ex. 5 • Write the paragraph • Replace each underlined common noun and its article with one of the proper nouns. • Make other minor changes as necessary.
