Bali Hotel Association Bali Hotels Association(formerly Casa Grande) is an association of General Managers of star rated hotels & resorts in Bali, who meet together to discuss issues of common interest. Members include general managers from more than80 hotels and resorts, representing more than 14,000 hotel rooms and nearly22,000 employees in the Bali hotel sector.

  3. Hospitality industry and it’s impact Each year over 700 mln people travel internationally. By 2020 it’s estimated 1.5 billion will travel. Growing Awareness in the tourism industryConsumers demand for change… • Tourists from a variety of countries advocate the hiring of local employees, and are willing to pay more for their vacation, if they can be assured that the employees are paid a fair wage. • At least a third of tourists surveyed say they are willing to pay more to companies that benefit local communities and conservation. • More than two-thirds of U.S. and Australian travelers, and 90% of British tourists, consider active protection of the environment, including support of local communities, to be part of a hotels responsibility.   13. Reduce Water Consumption In addition to agriculture, tourism is one of the main consumers of water in many regions. Since water is such a scarce and precious commodity, it should be used sensibly and in a controlled manner. • Regular data collection and action • Awareness campaign among team “Speak the same language” • Flow restrictor showers and taps (-30 - 50%) • Install dual / economy flush toilets • One hand mix taps • Motion controlled taps in public areas • Install drip sprinklers in gardens • Use rainwater capture tanks • Laundry machines with low cycles • Dishwashing machines filled to optimum

Reduce Waste ProductionAverage waste per (hotel) guest is between 0.8 and 2kg.Larger scale hotels could produce equal amount to village of 300 - 500 pax(source: Jimberan Lestari) • Regular Data Collection • Awareness campaign among team and guests • Introduce strict waste separation • Active policy to use recycled products / recyclable products • Environmentally Friendly Purchasing policy • Refill / rechargeable products

Reduce Energy Consumption Hotels add up to 30% of Bali’s Energy consumption (PLN) • Follow green design and build practices (Green Globe, LEED) • Use modern technology • Daily Energy Data Collection • Awareness campaign among team • Communication towards guests • Energy light bulbs • Use genset during peak hours • Guest room key tech system • Central room electricity control (FO) • Door contact switch for AC’s • Defrost minibars regularly (ecolabel) • Infrared sensors on public area lighting • TV turn-off - NOT standby • USE SUSTAINABLE ENERGY (Solar, Bio etc.)
