  8. Introduce Myself • I’ve been working as an editor for about 20 years at Tokyo Shoseki. • My post is in the Book Publication section (not a government-designated textbooks, but the books selling at bookstores). • I’m editing various kinds of books – for example, popular science books, picture books, knitting text books.

  9. I had a good result especially in photo-books especially unusual animals (capybara, shoebill, and otter etc.)

  10. I edited the book titled “Kojo-Moe”, the book has a lot of factories, and guides to enjoy great landscapes of industrial area. • The book is regarded as a pioneer of the boom of industrial tourism in Japan.

  11. Current Book Market of Japan • Sales amount has been declining for this 11 years. • Especially the number of Magazines and Comic books sales fell sharply. • Digital Book is becoming common little by little, but not much popular yet. • The distribution system has been too old, it should be updated.

  12. The Adventure of editorsleaving to find readers in the social network era • Where can we find readers ? • In Japan, Twitter is the most popular SNS. • In this presentation, I’m going to explain the case of twitter as an example • Some publishers have their own Twitter account. • Those accounts are mainly running by sales department staffs (not by editors).

  13. My cases 1:Longtailed-tit • I edited a photo-book of Long-tailed tit. (The above) • Mr. Matsubara, the author of the book, had a serial publication of the bird on a very popular website in Japan. • The website’s name is “Hobo NikkanItoiShinbun”, and it has 35million page view each day.

  14. Mr. Matsubara updated some articles just before publishing the book.

  15. The articles were shared by a lot of people on Twitter, and it spread speedy and widely. • The book was smash hit. I think we owed the success to the popularity of the website and the power of social networking.

  16. My cases 2:The new project • I am currently editing photo-book of Rock hyrax (small mammal looks like a big mouse). The animal is not very popular in Japan for now, but on the internet especially on Twitter, some people say “They’re so cute! I love them!” and go to zoo to “meet” them. • So I’m now searching “ Rock hyrax” on twitter everyday. Because I can find the feeling of great liking for hyrax about the searching. • It helps me to select photos for the book.

  17. “The baby of hyrax is very cute, so I’d be dead.” “It’s too cute that all hyraxes hide in the small hole.”
