  5. VISITS TO COLLEGES/UNIVERSITIES UNOFFICIAL VISITS (at your expense) Use school holidays, summer and/or allowable excused absences to plan college visits Contact college coach by email/phone to schedule an unofficial visit to meet with staff, watch a practice, observe team lift and perhaps get a facility tour with staff Contact Admissions to schedule a campus tour and information session. Collect academic material Do your research prior to trip – get on line and KNOW the team’s record, Championships/history, how many graduating your incoming frosh year, camp dates Go into meeting with 2-3 good questions that SHOW YOUR INTEREST (not your parents) in that particular college – first impressions mean a lot Write down all the pros and cons on your departure

  6. VISITS TO COLLEGES/UNIVERSITIES OFFICIAL VISITS (college pays for…not till 1st day of class of your senior year): You are allowed 5 visits that are ‘paid for’ meaning the college will pay for your flight or reimburse miles and provide lodging for prospect with meals and a limited amount of entertainment Families traveling with prospect – this varies based on budgets but a separate itinerary will usually be provided for parent/guardian DI has sped up so much with recruiting that most will not have 5 official visits anymore…so the unofficial visits/junior days and SUMMER CAMP act almost like the official visit but 1-2 years early If you have questions about official visits see www.ncaa.org

  10. Do’s and DON’Ts • Your homework with research – visit guidance, get on line, visit colleges • Have your own voice • Keep a Pros/Cons list – start a file on each college you visit • Consider CAMPS for top 1-3 colleges IF YOU ARE ON RADAR! • Take anything personally – coaches are busy…be persistent and ASK • You are in the drivers seat – take control and KEEP control • Don’t forget this is YOUR SEARCH, not your parent’s search! • Don’t forget to have fun
