  2. 1. Guidance History in the Philippines 1913 : Vocational Guidance is the first. 1926-30 :Occupational and Educational guidance 1932 :First Psychological Clinic. (by UP) 1933 :Various trades and profession materials

  3. 1935-45 :Guidance and Counseling Service in the schools. Public and private high school. 1945 : First Guidance Institute was conducted by army psychologists from the United States. 1950 :Formal degree program in counselor education.

  4. First- The graduate level Later- Undergraduate level as well 1951 : The school guidance started to move actively. Assist students with career choices, personal difficulties, school & home tasks, job placement, and initial work adjustments.

  5. 1953 : First formal organization of Philippines. Guidance Association of the Philippines (1945) Philippine Association of Guidance Counseling was founding of (1953) Philippine Guidance and Personal Association now known as Philippine Guidance and Counseling Association (1965)

  6. 1965: Counselors-challenged to prepare students in career. 1970-86 : The emergence of a movement to explore indigenous psychological concepts and methods inspired attempts to develop psychological tests and other assessment instruments.

  7. 1977: Philippine Vocational Guidance Association  Philippine Association for Career rename Guidance and Development  The Career Development rename Association of the Philippine

  8. 1980: 10th world Congress of the International Association of Education and Vocational Guidance (in the Phil.) 1982: The Technical and Vocational Education Project 1985: The Center for Women’s Studies and Development in Silliman University, Dumagete City.

  9. 1987-present: Expanded Career Counseling Services. Focused on; poverty, unemployment, underemployment, over population, overseas workers etc. to set career counseling out of school Companies career counseling services. (organizational development & human resource development programs)

Challenges 1) Family ties and Peso signs 2) Desire for economic improvement 3) Employability: studies show common reasons for curricular choices of college. • Interest in the field • Opportunity for employment • Personal or family welfare • Financial returns • Influence of role models Classical reasons

Training and Employment Mismatch 1) Career development =Vocational development = Occupational development = Life-long process of development ; refining attitudes, beliefs and values, skills an abilities, interest, personal traits or behaviors, discovering aptitudes, acquiring knowledge of the field.

  17. 5. History of Guidance US version 1907: A systematic school guidance program by Jesse B. Davis 1908: Prank Parsons –”Father of Vocational Guidance” 1920-30s: School Counseling and Guidance grew.

  18. 1940s: The US used psychologists and counselors to select, recruit, and train military personnel. 1950s: Guidance and Counseling was diffused to nation wide. 1960s: Continue to develop. * February 6-10: Nation school counseling week.
