1. 2019 Assessment WeekWeek commencing 8th April 2019. YEAR 9 Subject: French Park Hall Academy Length of exam: 1 hour (Writing Exam). Topics: Pupils have been completing a topic called ‘French Literature’ in this block. Here, they have been using the reading and writing skills as well as the topical vocabulary they use in English in French. We have been studying a French, gothic literature story and also, French fairy-tales. They have also been revising their tenses and some have moved on to use the imperfect tense. For the exam, they’ll be required to write their own story. They will have opportunities beforehand to plan and prepare their story. • Equipment Required: • 10 words help for the exam (maximum they are allowed to take into the examination). • To prepare for the examination beforehand, they will need: • Their vocabulary revision book. • To prepare the characters in their story as well as the general plan by paragraph. • To attend the after school sessions for an hour to practise their writing and give them confidence. Skills Assessed: Extended writing in French. Spelling. Word order and use of a variety of tenses. Grammar targets such as using the correct articles and adjectives for masculine, feminine and plural nouns. Adapting the perfect and imperfect tenses. ‘Ambitious’ use of new vocabulary they have learnt themselves. YEAR 9 - Beginners Subject: French Park Hall Academy Length of exam: 1 hour (Writing) Topics: Pupils have been studying all about their school life and how this can be expressed in French. This includes the names of the school subjects in French and opinions about them, times and when you have certain lessons, what you like to eat and don’t like to eat and also, what you would like to study in the future. They will be required to write about these aspects during an exam which lasts for an hour in class. • Equipment Required: • Pen • Highlighter • Key Vocabulary (they will have a limit of ten words) • A plan for how they will structure their writing (in English). • They will not be allowed to use a dictionary. YEAR 9 (Sets 1 and 2) Subject: Spanish Park Hall Academy Length of exam: 10 minutes (Speaking) Topics: Pupils have been learning about a topic called ‘Mis Vacaciones’ in Spanish. This is all about learning the names of the different countries in Spanish, describing which transport you used to get to each country (using the preterite tense), describing what you did on holiday and giving extended opinions about your holiday. They will be required to answer set questions about an imagined holiday for their exam. They will have an opportunity to prepare for this exam but will have no notes within the exam. • Equipment Required: • To prepare for the examination beforehand, they will need: • Their vocabulary revision book. • To prepare well beforehand the set questions (there are also ‘surprise’ questions.) • To attend the after school sessions for an hour to practise their speaking and give them confidence.) Skills Assessed: Fluency and pronunciation – how well the pupils try to ‘sound Spanish’ and realistic. Use of different tenses(specifically the preterite tense) Use of opinions and extending opinions using ‘porque’ (because). Use of different subjects and names to describe others. Getting the conjugation of the verb correct if they are using different subjects. Use of different vocabulary and phrases they have found themselves. YEAR 9 (Set 3) Subject: Spanish Park Hall Academy Length of exam: 1 hour (Writing). • Topics: • Pupils have been learning about a topic called ‘¿Quéhacemos?’ in Spanish. This includes learning vocabulary of invitations and how to ask people to go to different places in town as well as how to make excuses. In addition to this, they have been learning some key, reflexive verbs to do with how you get ready in the morning, how to describe the different clothes you wear as well as key verbs in the preterite (past) tense. They will be required to write about all of these topics in their exam. • Equipment Required: • Pen • Highlighter • Key Vocabulary (they will have a limit of ten words) • A plan for how they will structure their writing (in English). • They will not be allowed to use a dictionary. • Skills Assessed: • Extended writing in Spanish. • Ability to form sentences with the correct punctuation. • Including the correct spellings of verbs. • Attempts at using different, present tense and the preterite tense in Spanish. • Using conjunctions and opinions to extend sentences. • Including key vocabulary they have researched themselves. • Ability to use the key, reflexive verbs with different subjects. This includes what subjects they study, their opinions about different subjects, what there is in their school, what they do at breaktime and their opinions as well as telling the time in Spanish. For their exam, they will be required to write about all of these aspects for within an hour in as much detail as they can. • Equipment Required: • Pen • Highlighter • Key Vocabulary (they will have a limit of ten words) • A plan for how they will structure their writing (in English). • They will not be allowed to use a dictionary. Skills Assessed: Extended writing in Spanish. Ability to form sentences with the correct punctuation. Including the correct spellings of vocabulary. An understanding of how spellings change depending on whether nouns are masculine, feminine or plural. Using conjunctions and opinions to extend sentences. Writing in small paragraphs in Spanish.
