  7. Where Does Cellular Respiration Take Place? It actually takes place in two parts of the cell: Glycolysis occurs in the cytoplasm Krebs Cycle & ETC occur in the mitochondria

  8. Glycolysis Summary • Takes place in the cytoplasm • Anaerobic (doesn’t use oxygen) • Requires input of 2 ATP; this is considered the energy-investment phase

With Oxygen….Or Without • If oxygen is present, the end product of glycolysis will go to mitochondrion for the rest of cellular respiration and produce LOTS of energy • If oxygen is not present, then the end product of glycolysis will enter fermentation • Muscle cells enter lactic acid fermentation • Yeast enters ethanol fermentation
