Diversity Hot Topic Session • Friends of Diversity Designation • Optional Criteria • Chapter held an organized event or activity in 2009 that either focused on or incorporated the importance of diversity. • Chapter submitted a nomination for the Charles R. Stephens Excellence in Diversity Award • Chapter has received the Charles R. Stephens Excellence in Diversity Award within the last five years • Chapter created OR worked on implementation of a mentoring program for fundraising professionals with diverse backgrounds.

Diversity Hot Topic Session • Friends of Diversity Designation • Optional Criteria • Chapter sponsored or co-sponsored a joint program/workshop in conjunction with an organization that has a diverse staff or constituency. • Chapter has allocated a budget specifically for increasing the diversity within the chapter’s membership and/or programming.

Diversity Hot Topic Session Po`aha Fellows Program • Goal: encourage greater numbers of persons from culturally and economically diverse backgrounds to become active members of the AFP Aloha Chapter, AFP International and the fundraising profession • Objective: offer educational resources and collective expertise to assist individuals in building nonprofit communities and developing personal fundraising skills • Results: greater collaborative and supportive work between nonprofits without respect to size, need, location, training of background of staff, operational funding or experience

Diversity Hot Topic Session Po`aha Fellows Program • Program: • Up to 5 fellows will be selected • Each fellow will receive a complimentary membership for AFP International & Aloha Chapter • Fellow shall participate in chapter educational opportunities (no cost) • Fellow shall attend National Philanthropy Day Conference & Awards Luncheon (no cost) • Senior development professional from AFP Aloha Chapter assigned as mentor

Diversity Hot Topic Session Po`aha Fellows Program • Qualifications: • Responsible for fundraising at a 501(c)3 organization in Hawaii • Reflects or embraces diversity and/or works for such an organization • Financial need to support membership in AFP and attend programs • Has never been a member of AFP

Diversity Hot Topic Session Po`aha Fellows Program • Fellow’s Responsibility: • Submit current job description, resume and letter of support from his/her CEO • Offer $50 per year to assist in covering non-membership or registration expenses • Make time to attend at least 75% of opportunities offered • Volunteer for at least 1 board committee • Attend, as a guest, 2 AFP Aloha Chapter board meetings per year

Current Structure Chapter’s diversity goals are accomplished by the Diversity Committee, separate from overall goals, with minor collaboration Chapter’s other goals Membership Programs Chapter’s diversity goals Professional Development • Diversity Committee • 10 meetings a year, with focus on: • Recruitment, retention • Mixers, networking • Luncheon • Scholarships • 10 diversity moments • E-news articles Marketing Education Initiatives Philanthropy Day An evolution of diversity
