  2. School of Business Priorities 03-04 • Maintain or enhance faculty excellence and research tradition • Improve quality of MBA program • Increase alumni engagement • Improve facilities to achieve program goals

School of Business Program Update • MBA Program • Most media rankings turning up sharply • Student quality indicators up • Placement outcomes yet to improve relative to peers • Student recruitment very favorable relative to peers • Faculty Research Program • AMJ: Research productivity #14 in nation overall; Marketing and Management each ranked #2 • Business Research website: Marketing #1, top 10 in Organizational Behavior and HR • New hiring, promotion, and retention have advanced our quality in last two years.

School of Business Program Update • Undergraduate Program • Media rankings strong, but down slightly • Internal surveys show high satisfaction • Placement outcomes are excellent • Executive Education • Top 20 in U.S. in Financial Times Ranking • NRECA provides solid base of business • New Leadership and Applied Business Center launched with over 30 participants in a customizable executive education program for high potential executives • Executive MBA program ranked in Top 50 (FT 2003)

Alumni Engagement • Create the Future capital campaign • Seven year campaign concludes at end of 2006 • School of Business goal: $120 million • Current pledges total about $80 million, with approximately $60 million pledged since July 2002 • We continue to welcome ideas from faculty and staff about possible funding ideas. • Wisconsin Business Alumni Board initiative • Center boards are engaging more alumni and friends in our mission

Looking Ahead: Strategy • We are making great progress toward our goals in many areas—in spite of difficult fiscal climate. • No major changes appear imminent • Continue to strengthen incentives for high-impact research • Leverage some aspects of MBA program design into other program areas? • New undergraduate initiatives?

Looking Ahead: Organization • Senior Associate Dean Jim Johannes: oversees all for-credit program operations • Associate Deans for all program areas: undergraduate, Masters, research & PhD, executive education • Del Anderson, new Assistant Dean for Financial Management begins December 1 • Objective: new team will seek process improvement on many fronts—budget/finance, HR, meetings/decision making, other systems

Partners in Giving • 61 members of the School of Business community have contributed (as of 11/15/04) • Our 2004 Goal is 71 donors • The deadline to submit your form is November 30, 2004 • We will draw for the UW football signed by Barry Alvarez on Wed., December 1, 2004 • And the winners of the hockey tickets are Joan Schmit and Marty Blalock
