  8. What can you do? Talk MATH everyday. Time Kindergarten – Days of the week and months of the year 1st grade – hour hand and minute hand to the hour and half hour 2nd grade – time to the 5 minutes 3rd grade – Elapsed time 4th grade – Word Problems: Mason ran for an hour and 15 minutes on Monday, 25 minutes on Tuesday, and 40 minutes on Wednesday. What was the total number of minutes Mason ran? • Money • Kindergarten – Pennies • 1st grade – Pennies or Dimes • 2nd grade – Pennies, Nickels or Dimes • 4th grade – Word Problems: • A pound of apples costs $1.20. Rachel bought a pound and a half of apples. If she gave the clerk a $5.00 bill, how much change will she get back? • 5th grade – help keeping a check book

Counting with your students Kindergarten Counts up to 30: forward and backwards, Writes up to 20 1st grade Writes, recognizes, and counts forwards and backwards from any number to 120, skip counts by 10 2nd grade Up to 1,000; skips counts by 2, 5, and 10 from any number 3rd grade Skip counts (multiplication); decimals to tenths (0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.7, 0.8, 0.9, 1.0) 4th grade Up to 1,000,000; including decimals to hundredths; (0.01, 0.02 – read one hundredth, two hundredths) What is the difference between 0.01 and 0.10? 5th grade Continue to work on place value understanding and decimals to thousandths (0.001, 0.002)

  12. Tonight: Estimation Jars: Try to guess how many objects are in the jars and containers. There are also jars and containers in your grade level classrooms. We will then have 2 rotations that will last about 20 minutes each. We will make an announcement when it is time to rotate. If you only have one student, you may choose to go up to the next grade level to see is expected from them. Kindergarten – Ms. O’Dell’s room 1st grade – Ms. Locke’s room 2nd grade – Ms. Thomas’ Room 3rd grade – Ms. Lindsay’s Room 4th grade – Ms. Hinton’s Room 5th grade – Dr. Lee’s Room Estimation Jar Winners announced at 7:00 in lunchroom.
